Philadelphia: A City of Firsts

The first thing I see in my hotel room is Waddles, our class mascot!  Who knew he was meeting me in Philadelphia?  Other firsts special to the city are:

  • It was the home of America’s first zoo.
  • The first daily paper, The Philadelphia Packet and Daily Advertiser, started here in 1784.
  • It was the home to the first hospital.
  • Philadelphia was also home to the first medical school.
